Yes, the popular online retailer of discounted merchandise of everything from from DVDs, to duvets and diamond rings has launched a new section of their website devoted to pet adoption aptly titled, Pet Adoptions by Overstock.com.
Not unlike shopping for other goods on their site you can click on pictures and profiles of animals currently up for adoptions at shelters or rescues across the country. To narrow the search you can enter criteria for location, breed, gender and age. Unlike shopping on the site however, the company stresses the section is for animal adoption and they are not associated in anyway with puppy mills, breeders or the selling of animals. Overstock is hoping to create a place where rescue groups and organizations can connect the thousands of animals in need of new forever homes with people looking to adopt a pet. The company rolled out their pet adoption section back in April 2014 and at the time they had 200,000 profiles of animals currently up for adoption including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and even horses. Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization is also teaming with the site in an effort to further their goal of saving more animals through adoption.
