With the holidays right around the corner you might already have visions of snowflakes and sugarplums dancing in your head…. but how about a few paws, tailwaggs and tongue licks? Just in time for the holidays, Anchor Bay Entertainment is releasing, A Belle for Christmas on November 4th 2014, an uplifting comedy perfect for families and dog lovers alike. The film stars familiar faces including Dean Cain, Haylie Duff, and Kristy Swanson as well as fresh faces, Jet Jurgensmeyer and Meyrick Murphy who play Cain’s on screen kids, Elliot and Phoebe. The film’s story centers around the adoption of the family’s adorable, new dog Belle, and the conniving schemes of Swanson’s character, the father’s new girlfriend, to get rid of the new furry family member. With a little holiday magic and the help of the kind-hearted, dog rescue volunteer, Duff, the kids set off on a whirlwind adventure to reunite with their beloved dog just in time for Christmas. Dog and animal lovers’ will appreciate the film’s message about the need for more animal adoptions and responsible pet parenting. The kids meet Duff’s character at a dog adoption event but as much as they want the dog they are made aware of the great responsibility that comes with owning a pet, especially a playful puppy. It is only after careful consideration and little presentment begging that they are able to adopt Belle. For the many kids who might be including a pet on their list to Santa this year, A Belle for Christmas, might be perfect way for parents to discuss with their kids that pets aren’t just fun but require attention and work. The film also shows the remarkable love and healing power animals bring to our lives. In the movie Belle isn’t just any new pet she is a source of comfort for a family struggling to deal with the passing of their mother and coming to terms with the many changes that brings to their lives. Belle can never replace their mother but she offers them hope and happiness again. Belle is quickly considered a member of the family and incorporated into the holiday traditions and the chaos of the season. Not surprising, since so often our pets become another important member of our families, we even give them gifts and special treats at the holiday season. Of course owning a pet or contemplating pet ownership is not a prerequisite for enjoying this film. There is a lot for kids and families to enjoy and it’s sure to warm family hearts this holiday. You can take A Belle for Christmas home when the film comes to DVD November 4, 2014. When it comes to finding happiness it doesn’t get much easier than a day full of wagging tails and furry paws. To help promote the upcoming release of, “Hector and the Search for Happiness, “ Relativity Media along with DOG for DOG took part in the Best Friends Animal Society’s, Los Angeles Strut Your Mutt fundraising walk, and brought Luna, the Boston Terrier, dog star, of the film along to lead the team.
Luna met the public like any true star would, posing for pictures with the press, taking selfies with fans and even taking time to meet up for a quick photo shoot with the other canine star in attendance, Lassie. “Hector and the Search for Happiness” comes to theaters on September 19, 2014, and along with Luna, the film stars, Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike, Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsgard, Jean Reno and Christopher Plummer. The CW announced today they will air a brand new two-hour television event called THE WORLD DOG AWARDS. The show, produced by Juma Entertainment, promises to combine the glitz of the Hollywood award season with America’s affection for our lovable canine companions and, is slated to air January 15, 2015. The show is to celebrate dogs for their work in entertainment, health services and the military, along with everyday dogs who have found fame on the internet. Dogs of every size and breed will gather together at the aptly named Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California to be recognized for their achievements in film, television, commercials and animation. Producers plan for a show that is not only fun, with award categories like “Best Actor in A Supporting Role to a Dog”, but one that rivals the same spectacle of any big award show with a celebrity studded green carpet, musical guests, and a pet expo. While the World Dog Awards, might possibly be the biggest take on a Hollywood style award show for dogs it is not the first time Tinsel Town has rolled out the red carpet for our four-legged friends. The Golden Collar Awards honored dogs in film and television in a live-streamed award show back in 2012. The show, though not televised, received massive national and international press as well as the interest of millions of animal lovers across the globe. Uggie, the star of that year’s Oscar™ winner for Best Picture “The Artist” was awarded the top prize, The Golden Collar for “Best Performance by A Dog in a Movie.” The Hallmark Channel™ takes a more heartfelt approach with their Hero Dog Awards. Returning this fall for the 4th year, the show honors K-9’s for their heroic contributions to our lives. Past Hero Dogs winners included a dog that can sniff out cancer and a seeing-eye dog who helped guide his owner out of the World Trade Center during 9-11. Even NBC’s National Dog Show, though honoring dogs in a more traditional dog show format has a grand presence and draws a large crowd with its prime time placement, airing directly after the popular Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. With the large number of pet owners and lovers out there it is no wonder that the CW has also picked to shine the spotlight on dogs. The Company promises more information will come including how viewers will be able to participate in the voting process. Stay tuned. By: Staff Writer Beyond pool days and BBQ's this summer you can join forces with a few famous faces in support of dog in need. This grassroots initiative is an effort to provide one deserving shelter or rescue their delicious and nutrient rich DOGSFOOD™ for an entire year. The Company has asked the public to take to social media between now and June 20th to nominate their favorite shelter or rescue. Snoop Dogg tweeted his support for The Mutt Scouts while Chelsea Handler had her dog Chunk nominate Molly Mutt Meow. Both celebrities hoped their tweets would encourage others to get involved. Celebrity power has helped the movement has exploded on the DOGforDOG Facebook page with hundreds of deserving nominations pouring in daily. DOGforDOG plans to narrow down the nominations to a select group of finalist for the public to vote on starting on June 23rd. While nominations may be pouring in DOGforDOG really needs you to get out and buy the food that is currently available in select retailers and online. The company needs to reach their goal of 100k lbs. sold before the end of July in order to ensure a year’s supply for a shelter. The expanding line can be found in local retailers and online. The giveback philosophy behind the company is what drives the team at DOGforDOG each day. The “Feed A Shelter” campaign is just one thing they are doing in hopes of furthering their ultimate mission of feeding the thousands of dogs in need everyday! You can visit www.dogfordog.com/feedashelter or www.facebook.com/dogfordog to find out more about the “Feed A Shelter” campaign and how to submit your favorite shelter.
Frontline, a popular flea and tick control by Merial, is also asking the public to get involved with a challenge to walk with their dogs in what they are calling “1 Million Steps for Happy Healthy Dogs”. Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet, a long time dog lover, will be in New York on June 6th to kick off the program that asks people to pledge to walk 20 minutes with their dog each day. The company hopes to raise awareness for both the importance of flea and tick control, especially in the summer months, as well as the benefits of exercise for both canines and humans. The program runs through August 31st. If the target goal of one million steps is reached, Merial plans to donate up to a million dollars in product to shelters.
